Spotting tomorrow’s Forest Fires

A new system for spotting forest fires is being tested in Portugal. A wireless system called WiMAX is being combined with cameras to provide information about possible fires in hot spot areas that are very isolated. It has been further developed by EU-funded WIERD so that instructions can be sent down the line to the camera to pan or zoom as well the film footage being returned to base.
